26 January 2016 - Update: The attempt to break the Guiness World Record for the largest practical science lesson ever done will go ahead on 5 February when 2 100 learners, 60 teachers, 50 stewards and 50 volunteers will come together at the Durban Exhibition Centre.
14 January 2016 – Last week the outstanding results of 23 top achievers from all over the country were celebrated at a ministerial breakfast and during the live broadcast of the 2015 Matric Results. This year saw the majority of first places claimed by girls and Limpopo the province that contributed the most top achievers.
11 January 2016 - To assist learners who have failed matric the DBE has set up the Second Chance Matric Support Programme. The programme will be piloted in 2016 and registration for participation will only be open to learners that attempted the NSC examinations in 2015.
6 January 2016 - In a live broadcast the Minister of Basic Education last night announced the matric results for the Class of 2015. The overall pass rate has declined to 70,7%. To ensure that as many people as possible leave the education system with a certificate the Second Chance Matric Support Programme was launched.
