To help improve the quality of secondary school education for teachers at all school levels, with particular emphasis on Mathematics and Science teaching in Grades 10 to 12, the following training programmes have been identified:
ICT Literacy Development for Teachers
The Microsoft Partners in Learning training programmes for educators and principals and Intel Teach are made available to the districts through a SchoolNet Train the Trainer programme that includes ICT Skills for Teachers, Student Helpdesk, Sizanani ICT Skills for Community Members, Peer Coaching and Innovation courses.
Maths and Sciences Teacher Development Programme
Each participating DBE district selects 20 schools, with four teachers per school, and identifies the learning needs of the Grade 10 to 12 teachers in these schools. The Centre for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Education (Casme), a non-profit education development agency, provides a Mathematics and Sciences training programme that combines content knowledge and methodological and pedagogical skills, and integrates the use of ICT tools in the teaching these subjects. The programme will be hosted in the ICT resource centres and participating schools will receive a laptop with internet connectivity, an interactive whiteboard and a data projector to enable to replicate what they learnin the classroom.
